MEET UWIMANA – A GIFT FROM GOD

My name is AMANDA UWIMANA (which if translated means –a gift from God), but my friends call me ‘Tantine’. I was born in Goma, North Kivu, in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo on the 21st of March 1986. I attended both elementary and secondary education in Goma.

My height is1.72 m and I weigh 56kgs. My passion has always been filmmaking because I believe that through film acting and cinema every community is able to fight tribalism and social discrimination and every individual free to express themselves without intimidation; that is why I participated in the video production tryout of the following films: <<MOSEKA>>, <<PREJUDICE>>, <<A LA RECHERCHE DE MON PERE >> (searching for my father), <<AVEC OU SANS MA TRIBU>> (with or without my tribe), all by Oreb BULAMBO, a film Director based in and from Goma.

In 2003, I was elected reigning miss charm for my province of North Kivu.

I do swimming and a little of Basketball as sport. I speak 4 languages of which KISWAHILI, KINYARWANDA, FRENCH and ENGLISH. Concerning my profession, I always dreamt of acting in films and taking further this believe, considering myself as the voice of the voiceless.

For my first time (2006 June) to act in a professional film entitled <<MUKATABA>> (accord) by PETNA NDALIKO KATONDOLO a renown filmmaker across both Africa and Europe , I felt satisfied since I made a big leap forward in my dream career; one of new encounters, being open to new horizons. For me it is the beginning of attaining and fulfilling my career of a cinema actress because it has inspired and challenged me to the perfection especially working with a mentor who believes in social equality across the world.
