These activities aim to develop and train skills and talents through the various forms of artistic expression, mainly dance, drama, painting, video art and music. Contemporary dance and music lessons are held every week and painting and cinema workshops several times a year.

Y!A gets also involved in the development and promotion of young talents, providing coaching and organising contemporary art events. Premises and equipment (instruments, electronic equipment, painting, sound and video studios, etc.) are also made available to artists.

 

Some highlights:

  • Film Lamokowang (2004), selected for the UNESCO forum in New Delhi (India) and by the International Film Festival of Amiens (Belgium). Award of the best short movie at the International Film Festival in Zanzibar.
  • Best hip-hop song for Mother Africa at the Pearl of Africa Music Awards (2005)
  • Attendance at various international film festivals (Africa in the Pictures, Afrika film festival, Ziff, Amakula Kampala film festival, Festel)
  • Painting Common Vision selected at the Global Summit on Peace and youth for the printing of greeting cards 2005
  • Burudani Dance Company invited by the German President to perform in Berlin (2008).
  • Correspondent in DRC for the Metropolitan programme of VPro, Dutch TV (2008)
  • Programs in this category are intended to bring the community together and to create debate and dialogue. They aim to raise awareness and sensitize the community to the issues and problems of the world where they live (human rights, HIV/AIDS, gender based violence, civic rights and duties, etc.).

    They also want to "give a voice to the voiceless" and promote the reality and the views of people who can’t express themselves because they lack access to communication means. They aim to give a sense of responsibility to each individual and to raise awareness that everyone is an actor of the society and an agent for change.

Activities such as workshops, performances and showings, discussion groups are organized to bring people together beyond their origins and their story and to create a place free of prejudices that exist in the community and where a fair and sincere dialogue can happen among members.

  • Participating with the network Baobabconnections.org to the World Urban Forum (UN Habitat), Barcelona, Spain (2004)
  • Film Twaomba Amani for women victims of sexual violence (2005), awareness tour across North Kivu in partnership with Synergy of Women for the Victims of sexual violence.
  • Organizing a teleconference between DRC (Goma) and the Netherlands (Amsterdam) on the presidential elections in Congo during Africa in the Pictures Film Festival (2006)
  • Co-organising Easter for Children in Goma. A day of games, shows, etc.. in partnership with Don Bosco, Light of Africa and Healing Network Africa (April 2007).
  • Participating with the network Baobabconnections.org the World Forum Youth and Urban violence (UN Habitat), Durban, South Africa (2008)
